What to Do if You Have Had Contact With Someone Who Has COVID-19

Please follow these instructions for at least 14 days from the day you were in close contact with a person who has COVID-19.

  • You must separate yourself from others. Stay home and, if possible, remain in a specific room away from others in your household. Use a separate bathroom if available.
  • Do not use any type of public transportation.
  • Always wear a face mask when around other people and cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid sharing personal household items such as dishes, glasses, utensils, towels, or bedding. Clean them thoroughly after each use.
  • Get tested by contacting your local healthcare provider or visiting a COVID-19 testing resource to find locations near you.
  • If your test result is positive, follow COVID-19 guidelines and stay home for 14 days. If symptoms appear after a negative test, get tested again.
  • Monitor symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, body aches, headache, or loss of taste or smell.
